"Bob," says Mike to Cooper, circling Ben Horne in the interrogation room, "has been very close."
Jerry rolls his eyes and says to Harry, "Sheriff? Is there something you'd like to share with us?" When Harry doesn't say anything, Jerry says, "Oh. Great." He looks at Mike. "And would you tell this guy to stop staring at me like I'm a dog biscuit?"
"Bob has been very close."
"And who's Bob?" says Jerry. "I don't know a Bob. Do we know a Bob?" Ben shakes his head. "Sheriff, no offense, but clearly this man's stairs don't reach all the way to the attic. Now, your twenty-four hours are up. You either charge my client or let him go."
Harry seizes Cooper's shoulder, almost shoves him aside, gives Jerry a death glare. "Ben Horne. I'm charging you with the murder of Laura Palmer." It's almost a growl.
"Good move, Jerry."
"Hawk, take Mr. Gerard back to the hotel. Nail the windows shut. I want two men on his door."
Cooper's standing in the background. Harry isn't like this. Not usually. Harry's been good about letting Cooper take the lead ever since the first day, the first hour --
"You two-bit lumberjack, you're finished in ths town -- " Ben goes for Harry's throat; Jerry shoves Ben back against the wall.
Enough, Cooper thinks, and moves forward. "Harry? Can I see you outside -- ?"

"I don't think Ben Horne killed Laura Palmer."
"What?"
"We should release him," Cooper says. Insists. Because -- Ben didn't do it. It's Bob. And Mike said that Bob was very close, but...not here. It makes sense. Cooper knows it makes sense.
Harry stares at him.
"Cooper. I have backed you every step of the way. But I've had enough of the mumbo-jumbo. I've had enough of the dreams, the visions, the dwarfs, the giants, Tibet, the rest of the hocus-pocus."
Harry has a hand on Cooper's shoulder. Cooper doesn't know what Harry's expression is like, because he's not looking at him. Is looking down.
"Now, we got hard evidence against Ben Horne. It's my job to lock him up."
Cooper knows Harry is looking at him, waiting for acquiescence.
He'll give it to him.
"You're right, Harry," says Cooper a little slowly, with no feeling. "This is your back yard; sometimes an outsider can forget that."
No emphasis on outsider.
Cooper turns, and walks away, and doesn't look back.
